Bipartisan Farm Bill Advances with Critical Support for Farmers and Science-Based Standards
The Farm Bill has long served as the cornerstone of U.S. agriculture policy, equipping farmers with the tools they need to navigate volatile markets, rising input costs, and unpredictable weather. From conservation and nutrition programs to crop insurance, it plays a vital role in strengthening rural economies and protecting America’s food supply. With farm margins tightening and uncertainty growing, advancing a strong Farm Bill is more important than ever.
The bipartisan legislation approved by the House Agriculture Committee includes a key provision—Section 10205—that reaffirms the EPA’s science-based authority over pesticide labeling. By ensuring federally approved labels remain the national standard, this language provides farmers with a consistent regulatory framework they can depend on.
Crop protection products are essential to modern agriculture. These EPA-approved tools help control weeds and pests, protect yields, manage costs, and support conservation practices like no-till and cover cropping. However, conflicting state labeling requirements threaten to disrupt access to these tools, creating confusion in the marketplace and increasing risk for farmers. The consequences would extend beyond the farm, driving up costs throughout our food, fuel, and fiber systems.
Section 10205 helps prevent that disruption by reinforcing clear federal standards around health and safety of pesticides, grounded in the gold-standard scientific review we have in this country. This approach supports farm viability, provides peace of mind for consumers, and helps keep food affordable for American families.
The Modern Ag Alliance commends House Agriculture Chairman GT Thompson and members of the Committee on both sides of the aisle for advancing legislation that prioritizes science-based policy and farmer certainty. As the Farm Bill moves forward, we urge Speaker Mike Johnson to bring it to the House floor quickly so farmers—and the consumers who rely on them—have the stability and clarity they deserve.
